I had my birthday in the Cornerstone

Apparently, Cornerstone is Tom Brown’s favourite Arctic Monkeys track and the reason behind the name of his first his first solo venture, in Hackney Wick.

Despite the noughties mega hype, I never was much of an Arctic Monkeys fan, however, I am most definitely a fan of @cornerstonehackney.

With its inventive use of fresh ingredients, inventive small plates, sleek interior, and stellar service, there really isn’t a more relevant seafood restaurant in London at the moment.

Dishes included pickled oyster with dill oil, cured gurnard and ajo blanco, their signature hake Kyiv, and a crab bun with kimchi.

The shared small plate concept might not be to everyones taste, particularly if you have a big appetite, but I have always loved it - ever since my first visit when it launched in 2018. The cooking is consistent, has a light touch, and is very moreish, but if you prefer a heartier dinner, then I would recommend visiting for lunch instead, and mooching around the local canals afterwards.

For this birthday girl however, it was the perfect dinner. Uncomplicated, bright, and delicious (but enough about me!?), and another great meal at Cornerstone.
