Goodbye Brighton (for now)

February was my last month in Brighton for a wee while, but I obviously couldn’t leave without trying a few new places, with some lovely old faces.

Dinner at @palmito.restaurant has been on the cards since its launch last year, so when invited to sample their eclectic small plate menu, that highlights locally sourced produce with flavours from all corners of the world, I obviously said yes!

Weekly menu changes means that dishes stay seasonal and exciting; think clams with curry leaf, prawns doused in coriander and lime, locally caught squid on brioche with aioli, and crispy beef tacos. Would definitely recommend going.

Valentines = Galentines, with a pop up at @posthousebrighton from @thesyndicatekitchen. SKINT was a £25 tasting menu, made affordable by using less desirable or fashionable ingredients that would be otherwise counted as ‘waste’.

This low-cost approach is super relevant in our current climate, and displayed some very inventive dishes, such as mustard sprout stalks with egg yolk and anchovy, and cake trim and cider lees (part of the fermentation process) caramel sundae.
